In 2009, I started bleeding during bowel movements and thought it was hemorrhoids. So I decided to go to my doctor and he sent me to do a colon test. After I got the results back from the colon test, I was told that I had rectal cancer, which was the cause of the bleeding during bowel movements. I was then sent to do a CT Scan and MRI, so that they could make sure they knew what is was. The results of the tests confirmed the presence of cancer in the rectum.
After it was confirmed, I then spoke with Pastor Gary Mwentin Hibbert and explained what the doctors told me. Pastor Gary and the other pastors from the church prayed for me and continued to speak the word of God over me during this time. They confessed, “by the wounds of Jesus you were healed”, and I confessed and prayed this over myself as well. I was then scheduled in January of 2010 for surgery, so that they could remove the cancer. After the surgery was finished, I was told the surgery went well. From the surgery, they were able to tell what stage the cancer was at and they told me that I had stage 4 cancer and then I was placed in intensive care.
However, after some time at the hospital I was told I needed to have a regular bowel movement in order for me to be released. The morning of January 31, 2010, I felt like I wanted to have a bowel movement, but everything felt like it was stuck inside of me. I eventually ended up collapsing on the floor and was rushed to surgery. This was due to a leak in the intestine, so all the stool was leaking into me and poisoning my body. My daughter Shereka immediately contacted the pastors and they began to pray and speak the word of God concerning me, that “by the wounds of Jesus you were healed”. When I came out of the second surgery to fix the leak in my intestines, I was given a colostomy bag and told it would be reversed after 2 months. Unfortunately, due to my low blood count that resulted from the chemo and radiation treatment, it was not reversed. I had the bag for over a year at this point and I was told it would be permanent. After this news, I went to Pastor Gary and ask him to pray for me. I asked him to also pray that I had favour and that the doctor would do the reversal that she had promised, even though she’s never done a reversal for anyone after a year.
Through prayer and faith, I found favour with my doctor and she reversed the bag, which was a success, despite her never doing this type of reversal before. This was truly the favour and goodness of God. All through this time, we kept on praying and speaking what God said, “by the wounds of Jesus you were healed’. It also really helped having family, friends and pastors who prayed with me. They were there to help me and keep my spirits up through words of encouragement during those early years after being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.
In 2013, approximately 2 years after being told I had stage 4 rectal cancer, I was told I no longer had cancer, but would be required to do a check every 6 months, which I did for 3 years. After the 3 years, they told me that I have to do a colon test every 10 years. It has now been approximately 10 years since the cancer diagnosis and I am still cancer free. Thank you Jesus, because there are so many people who were diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, had chemo, and radiation treatments, who are not alive today. I thank God for the work the doctors did, but I know that I am alive today because God watches over his word, his promises to perform it.
